Gomer Thomas Jones played center for Ohio State 1933-1935. In 1935 he was captain, was the team's most valuable player, and was named All-America. He stood 5-8 and weighed 210 pounds and was a linebacker on defense. He served as assistant coach at Ohio State and John Carroll University and from 1947 through 1963 he was line coach at Oklahoma. He developed 16 All-America linemen. He was Oklahoma's head coach 1964-65 and was director of athletics 1964-71. He died in 1971. Jones said his greatest thrill as a player was in Ohio State's victory over Chicago in 1935. Ohio State trailed 13-0, tied the score in the fourth quarter, and won 20-13 on a touchdown with four minutes to play. The touchdown play, said Jones, involved perfect blocking by the entire team.
