Jim Youngblood was an all-around athlete in high school at Jonesville, South Carolina. He was all-conference in football, basketball and baseball. His ability was a family heritage. His father was a standout semi-pro baseball player, and his mother was a star basketball player in high school in Jonesville. Jim Youngblood was a linebacker at Tennessee Tech 1969-72 and set a school record with 476 tackles. The Ohio Valley Conference named him Defensive Player of the Year in 1971 and 1972. Tennesse Tech retired his jersey, No 53. He made All-America teams at the college-division level in 1971 and 1972. Youngblood, who was 6-3 in height and weighed 235, was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. He played 11 years with the Rams and one year with the Washington Redskins.
