In an amazing four-year stretch (1972-75), Joe Washington's brilliant running led the Oklahoma Sooners to a 43-2-1 record and two National Championships (1974-75). A two-time All America selection (1974-75), Washington tallied a then-school record 3,995 career rushing yards and currently holds the Sooner mark for career all-purpose yardage (5,781). Following his collegiate career, the San Diego Chargers selected Washington with the fourth-overall selection in the 1976 NFL Draft. Washington played nine seasons in the NFL (1977-85), accumulating 8,252 yards from scrimmage and 31 touchdowns. He is currently the owner of a marketing and advertising company.
