Steve Kiner made consensus All-America in 1968 and unanimous All-America in 1969 as linebacker for Tennessee. The vols had a 26-6-1 record in his time and won two Southeastern Conference Championships.
The 1968 defense, led by Kiner, set a school record by holding opponents to an average 93 yards a game on rushing plays. Kiner was named to Tennessee's all-100 year team.
He played nine years, 1970-78, in the NFL with Dallas, New England, Washington, and Houston.
Kiner continued his educational life in 1994, obtaining a PhD in clinical psychology. He then began a practice in mental health therapy in Carrollton, Georgia.
