Steve Spurrier was one of those who proved you can go home again to enjoy an outstanding collegiate career. Born in Miami Beach, Florida, Steve attended Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tennessee, before moving back to Florida for his college education. As a 6-2, 203-pound quarterback, Spurrier played for Coach Ray Graves' University of Florida Gators from 1964 to 1966. He was All-America twice, unanimous in 1966. In his career he completed 392 passes for 4.848 yards and 36 touchdowns. He punted for an average of 40.3 yards, with a 63-yard punt against Miami in 1964. He was in the Sugar Bowl as a junior, completing 14 passes for 160 yards. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1966. Spurrier played in the National Football League and went into coaching. He coached Duke 1987-89 with a 20-13-1 record. He moved to Florida as head coach in 1990.
