Jack Casteel "Teel" Bruner lettered four years, 1982-85, as a defensive back for Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. He was credited with 20 interceptions, 19 blocked passes, four fumble recoveries, and one touchdown. In a game against Rose-Hulman in 1984 he had five interceptions, tying the national record. Centre was in the College Athletic Conference, NCAA Division III. Bruner made all-conference three times. He was named All-America by the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association 1984-85. Bruner came to Centre from Laurel County (Ky.) High School. At Centre he also played on the basketball team and had a 3.9 grade point average. He was in Phi Beta Kappa and was nominated as a Rhodes Scholar. He was Academic All-America 1984-85. He took pre-med courses at Centre, obtained a medical degree at the University of Kentucky, and moved to Cottonwood, Idaho, to practice medicine
