"It's an honor to welcome these six individuals to our board," said
NFF President & CEO Steven J. Hatchell. "If you were to name the top
leaders in collegiate athletics and our nation's business communities,
this group would be on everybody's short list. Their combined business
acumen and knowledge of collegiate athletics will greatly aid in our
ability to carry out our mission as we greatly expand our efforts on all
fronts."
Founded in 1947 with leadership and support from General Douglas
MacArthur, legendary Army coach Earl "Red" Blaik and renowned journalist
Grantland Rice, the NFF serves as a leading voice in the promotion of
amateur football and its ability to develop the qualities of leadership,
sportsmanship, competitive zeal and the drive for academic achievement
in America's young people.
"Adding individuals of this caliber to our national board reinforces
our role as a driving force in the promotion of amateur football from
border-to-border and coast-to-coast," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning.
"As we celebrate the NFF's 63rd anniversary, this widely respected
group of individuals will provide precious insight and guidance in our
ability to promote everything right about our great game."
The six new members increase the total number of people on the board
to 47, including Chairman Archie Manning, President & CEO Steven J.
Hatchell, Vice Chairman Clayton I. Bennett, and Vice Chairman George M.
Weiss. They also compliment the ten stalwarts recently added during the
past two years: James Haslam II, Founder & Chairman of the Pilot
Corporation; Jerry Jones, Owner, President and General Manager, Dallas
Cowboys; Robert Kraft, Founder, Chairman & CEO, The Kraft Group;
Chairman & CEO, New England Patriots; Ronnie Lott, Founder HRJ
Capital, College Football Hall of Famer from Southern California; John
J. Mack, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley;
Michael Moe, Co-Founder of Global Silicon Valley Partners; Kevin Plank,

Slive, Commissioner, Southeastern Conference; and Deborah Yow, Athletics
Director, University of Maryland.
The NFF programs cover the entire spectrum of amateur football. The
College Football Hall of Fame, one of the nation's premier sports
museum, stands as the centerpiece to organization's efforts, showcasing
the accomplishments of the 1,028 legends from all divisions of college
football who are immortalized within its walls. The 121 NFF chapters in
47 states reach more than 4,800 high schools and 400,000 football
players with more than 1,000 annual events, including coaching clinics,
leadership conferences, college nights, media days, and awards banquets.
The NFF is a leader in programs encouraging academic performance by
student-athletes. Launched in 1959 with funds donated by Coach Blaik,
the NFF Scholar-Athlete Awards program became first initiative in
history to distribute post-graduate scholarships based on a player's
academic, athletic and leadership accomplishments. Currently, the
program annually distributes $300,000 in highly sought-after
post-graduate scholarships to the best from the college gridiron, and
since its inception the program has awarded $9.2 million. Combined with
the more than $800,000 distributed by the NFF chapters, total annual NFF
scholarships currently exceed $1.1 million each year. The NFF Hampshire
Honor Society recognizes all the college football players from all
divisions who maintain a 3.2 GPA or better, and the NFF Scholar-Athlete
Alumni Association brings together all of the past recipients to support
the NFF's efforts.
Launched in 1998 and currently in 70 schools in 31 cities, Play It
Smart, the NFF's highly successful mentoring program for at-risk kids,
has established itself as one of the most comprehensive and effective
youth development programs in the country. The program dramatically
increases graduation and college enrollment rates while earning more
than $6 million a year in scholarships for its participants.
The NFF Gridiron Clubs of New York, Los Angeles and Dallas, serving
as power centers for the organization, work to promote college football
in these heavily populates regions. The NFF-FWAA Football Forum, created
in partnership with the Football Writers Association of America, brings
together leaders from the world of college and the media to discuss the
major challenges facing college football in a relaxed setting.
Major Awards presented by the NFF include the MacArthur Trophy,
representing the pinnacle in team achievement and claimed by every
college football national champion since 1959; the NFF Gold Medal
granted for exceptional contributions to our society and claimed by
seven U.S. Presidents and numerous other business titans since 1958; the
Campbell Trophy (endowed by HealthSouth and formerly known as the
Draddy Trophy), which is bestowed annually on the nation's top college
scholar-athlete since 1990; and numerous other awards designed to
promote the good in the game and recognize unique contributions to the
sport.
The NFF also plays a prominent role as a resource for the media by
releasing the weekly Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Standings; producing
the widely acclaimed Monday's Chalktalk, which provides a weekly
compendium of college football news; adding historical perspective to
the college football season with This Week in College Football History;
and providing access to the wit and wisdom of NFF Historian Dan Jenkins,
the celebrated sportswriter and best selling novelist.
Troy Aikman
Television Analyst
Fox Sports
Troy Aikman, a 2008 inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame
and a 2006 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, has harnessed
the drive and dedication that formed the foundation of his Hall of Fame
football career in numerous successful business ventures since retiring
from the game following the 2000 season. Through broadcasting, real
estate, auto racing and The Troy Aikman Foundation, Aikman has quickly
discovered numerous ways to keep himself occupied in "retirement".
After leaving the playing field, Aikman joined the NFL on FOX
full-time as a game analyst on the network's No. 2 NFL team in 2001. He
quickly displayed the accuracy and work ethic that marked his playing
career and moved up to Fox's No. 1 broadcast crew prior to the 2002
season. Teamed with Emmy Award-winning play-by-play announcer Joe Buck,
the duo has impressed both critics and fans with the consistently
entertaining and informative brand of coverage they provide. Highly
skilled at succinctly illustrating action on the field, Aikman's
contemporary analysis offers keen insight into the skill and pressure
associated with playing in today's NFL. Aikman has twice been an Emmy
nominee for his broadcasting efforts.
Away from the spotlight of network television, Aikman has also
prospered in business. In March of 2006, he became a principal owner in
Direct Development, a commercial retail real estate development company.
Direct Development has completed projects totaling more than 2 million
square feet and intends to increase that to 7 million over the next 2
years. The company already has 2.5 million square feet of shopping
space under construction, and another 2.5 million square feet committed
by 2010. Direct Development's recent growth has already made it one of
the most active retail developers in the state of Texas.
Keeping his competitive juices flowing in the world of sports,
Aikman teamed with another former Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame
quarterback, Roger Staubach, to create Hall of Fame Racing in 2004.
After securing a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal with Texas
Instruments, Hall of Fame Racing debuted the No. 96 DLP Technology car
at the Daytona 500 in February, 2006.
During Aikman's 12-year playing career, he set 45 Cowboys' passing
records, including the club's career record for completions (2,898),
passing yards (32,942), touchdowns (165) and completion percentage
(61.3). While leading one of sports' most famous franchises, the
Cowboys won six NFC East titles (1992-96 & 1998) and advanced to
four NFC Championship Games (1992-1995). Aikman is one of only four
quarterbacks to guide his team to victory in three Super Bowls (XXVII,
XXVIII and XXX).
The Cowboys honor those who made outstanding contributions to the
club by inducting them into the Ring of Honor and in September, 2005,
Aikman along with former teammates Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith became
the newest members of that prestigious group when their names were
added to the wall at Texas Stadium.
Prior to joining the Cowboys, Aikman passed for 5,298 yards and 41
touchdowns in two years at UCLA. During that span, the All-American led
the Bruins to a 20-4 record. In 1999, he was inducted into the UCLA
Sports Hall of Fame. He transferred to UCLA after two seasons at the
University of Oklahoma (1984-85). Selected by the Cowboys with the first
overall selection in the 1989 NFL Draft, he became the first rookie
quarterback to start a season opener for Dallas since Staubach in 1969.
Born Nov. 21, 1966, he was raised in Cerritos, California. At the
age of 12, his family moved to Henryetta, Oklahoma where he went on to
earn All-State honors at Henryetta High School. He and his wife,
Rhonda, reside in Dallas with their three daughters: Rachel, Jordan and
Alexa.
William R. "Bill" Battle III
Founder
The Collegiate Licensing Company
Bill Battle founded The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) in 1981.
CLC, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is the nation's oldest and largest
marketing agency dedicated to providing domestic and international
licensing services to the collegiate market. CLC currently represents
nearly 200 colleges, universities, bowls, and conferences, as well as
the NCAA and The Heisman Trophy. CLC has been instrumental in growing
the U.S. retail market for collegiate merchandise from approximately
$250 million in 1984 to more than $4 billion in 2009. Since its
inception in 1981, CLC has paid its member institutions over $1 billion
in royalties, most of which is used to fund scholarships.
Bill founded the company and served as its president and CEO until
2002 when he turned the day-to-day operations over to his son, Pat. In
2007, CLC was acquired by IMG, the world's premier sports and
entertainmenet marketing company. CLC remains a separate business unit
within IMG, reporting to Pat Battle who heads up IMG College. Bill
still remains active in CLC and its related businesses.
In addition to his role at CLC, Bill also served as chairman of the
board of Licensing Partners International (LPI). LPI was created in 2001
to represent the licensing interests of non-collegiate sports
properties, as well as corporate and entertainment properties. LPI,
which was also acquired by IMG in 2007, currently represents the
Canadian Football League, the PGA TOUR, and Churchill Downs
Incorporated, among other properties.
LPI's predecessor company, Battle Enterprises, Inc. (BEI), served as
the exclusive licensing representative for NASCAR from 1989-1995, the
PGA TOUR from 1994-1997, and Phase I of the Atlanta 1996 Olympics from
1990-1991. Other properties represented by BEI over the years included
various U.S. Olympic National Governing Bodies (USA Boxing, Diving,
Gymnastics, Rowing, Swimming, and others), and Goodyear Racing.
Prior to starting CLC and Battle Enterprises, Bill held various
positions within Circle S Industries in Selma, AL. He served as
president of two different companies, as well as vice chairman of the
Circle S Holding Company Board. During his six years at Circle S, the
organization grew from two companies earning $12 million in annual sales
to 10 companies earning $60 million.
Bill's foundation for CLC began with football. He had a successful
playing career as a three-year starter at the University of Alabama and
was a part of Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's first national championship
team. He entered the coaching profession as a grad assistant at the
University of Oklahoma in 1963. In 1964 and 1965, he served as an
assistant coach at the United States Military Academy while serving a
two-year military tour. In 1966, he moved to the University of
Tennessee, where he served as an assistant coach for four years until he
was named head coach in 1970. During his seven-year tenure as head
coach, his teams went 59-22-2, ranked three times in the top-10, twice
in the top-20, and won four out of five bowl games.
Bill holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama and a
master's degree from the University of Oklahoma. He was named first
team tight end and second team defensive end on the University of
Alabama All Decade Team of the 1960s, and in 1981 was inducted into the
Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Bill became the first member inducted into
the National Collegiate Licensing Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and
was the recipient of the 2005 Paul W. Bryant Alumni Athlete Award at
the University of Alabama. In 2008, he was inducted into the
International Licensing Industry Merchandisers' Association (LIMA) Hall
of Fame. Bill also received a National Football Foundation award in New
York in December 2008 for his Outstanding Contributions to Amateur
Football. He currently serves on the boards of the Bank of North
Georgia, the Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Foundation, the University of
Alabama A-Club Educational & Charitable Foundation, and the Crimson
Tide Foundation..

T. Boone Pickens
Founder and Chairman
BP Capital Management
Pickens, founder and chairman, BP Capital Management, is principally
responsible for the formulation of the energy futures investment
strategy of the BP Capital Commodity Fund and the BP Capital Equity
Fund. BP Capital manages one of the nation's most successful
energy-oriented investment funds. Every $1 investors put into the
commodity fund managed by BP Capital at its inception had a value of $46
million at yearend 2008, an annualized return of about 40 percent.
Pickens frequently utilizes his wealth of experience in the oil and
gas industry in the evaluation of potential equity investments and
energy sector themes. In July 2008, Boone launched a grass-roots
campaign aimed at reducing this country's crippling dependence on
imported oil. In television ads, on his Pickens Plan website, and in
personal appearances, he has spelled out how our dependence on foreign
is an addiction that threatens our economy, our environment and our
national security, and ties our hands as a nation and a people. He has
spent the time since spelling out how this country can drag itself out
of this quagmire, if it acts quickly and reasonably.
His 2008 New York Times bestseller, The First Billion is the
Hardest, also details what this country must do to win back its energy
independence. Pickens has not been shy in predicting oil and gas prices
and - more often than not - has been uncanny accurate. As a result, he
is a frequent guest on some of the nation's most-watched business
programs (CNBC has coined him the "Oracle of Oil").
Pickens is also aggressively pursuing a wide range of other business
interests, from water marketing, alternative wind power, and ranch
development initiatives to Clean Energy, a clean transportation fuels
company he founded and took public in May 2008 (the eighth entity he has
helped go public in his career). Through Mesa Water, Pickens is the
largest private holder of permitted groundwater rights in the United
States. Clean Energy is advancing the use of natural gas as a
cleaner-burning and more cost-effective transportation fuel alternative
to gasoline and diesel. Mesa Power plans to operate a 1,000-megawatt
wind farm in the Texas Panhandle. Pickens was founder of Mesa Petroleum
in its various forms beginning in 1956. Mr. Pickens' career at Mesa
spanned four decades. Under his leadership, Mesa grew to become one of
the largest and most well known independent exploration and production
companies in the United States; Mesa produced more than 3 trillion cubic
feet of gas and 150 million barrels of oil from 1964 to 1996.
Pickens earned a degree in geology from Oklahoma A&M (now
Oklahoma State University) in 1951. His many educational associations
and honors include Honorary Doctorate of Science Oklahoma State
University (2002); Honorary Doctorate of Public Service awarded by
George Washington University (1988); Francis Marion College awarded an
honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities (1988); Distinguished Lecturer -
Emory University School of Business (1987); Doctor of Laws conferred by
Barry University, Miami Florida (1986); Named Distinguished Fellow of
the College of Arts & Sciences at Oklahoma State University (1982);
Henry G. Bennett Distinguished Service Award from Oklahoma State
University (1982); Distinguished Alumni Award from Oklahoma State
University (1982); Distinguished Fellow Award from Oklahoma State
University (1980).
