2010 College Football Hall of Fame Class Enshrined

The newest class of College Football Hall of Famers was enshrined on Saturday night in South Bend, Ind. The dinner and show was emceed by Charles Davis of NFL Network and Fox along with ESPN's Jon Gruden before a sold out crowd and a live webstream on FootballFoundation.org. This year's class consisted of Dennis Byrd (NC State) represented by his son David, Ronnie Caveness (Arkansas), Ray Childress (Texas A&M), Dexter Coakley (Appalachian State), Randy Cross (UCLA), Sam Cunningham (USC), Mike Favor (North Dakota State), Charles Haley (James Madison), Mark Herrmann (Purdue), Clarkston Hines (Duke), Desmond Howard (Michigan), Mickey Kobrosky (Trinity (Conn.)) represented by his son Gary, Chet Moeller (Navy), Jerry Stovall (LSU), Pat Tillman (Arizona State) represented by his widow Marie, Alfred Williams (Colorado) and coaches Barry Alvarez (Wisconsin), Mike Kelly (Dayton), Bill Manlove (Widner (Pa.), Delaware Valley (Pa.) and La Salle) and Gene Stallings (Texas A&M and Alabama). ESPN conducted several interviews with the inductees on Saturday, Sirius-XM satellite radio broadcasted from the Hall of Fame Plaza and WNDU-TV provided live coverage of Hall of Fame Parade on Saturday. Over 15,000 people were in attendance for Friday's cookoff.

NFF President and CEO Steve Hatchell, NFF COO Matthew Sign and NFF board member Jack Lengyel presented South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke with a commemorative football for his commitment to the College Football Hall of Fame. FWAA President and Mobile Press-Register sportswriter Tommy Hicks, along with ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel, presented ESPN's Beano Cook with the FWAA Bert McGrane Award. Also in attendance at the enshrinement were former Texas A&M head coach R.C. Slocum, Michigan athletics director Dave Brandon, Alabama athletics director Mal Moore, College Football Hall of Fame coach Fred Martinelli, North Dakota State athletics director Gene Taylor and head coach Craig Bohl and former Notre Dame national championship winning quarterback Tony Rice.

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame will hold its first annual Legends of the Hall Dinner honoring College Football Hall of Famers Bob Lilly (TCU) and Earl Campbell (Texas) on Friday, July 29.

College Football Hall of Famer Desmond Howard (Michigan) has written a memoir entitled I Wore 21: The Legend of Desmond Howard. The book becomes available for purchase today.

College Football Hall of Famer and 1983 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Steve Young, College Football Hall of Fame coach LaVell Edwards, Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer, ESPN's Trevor Matich appeared at the Live Legends Roundtable Show at BYU's first football media day as an FBS Independent.

BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock will address the media with GoDaddy.com Bowl President Jerry Silverstein and R + L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Executive Director Billy Ferrante during the Sun Belt Conference's media days on Tuesday, July 19.

College Football Hall of Famer Wayne "Thumper" Harris (Arkansas) and fellow former Razorback Jim Mooty have been elected to the inaugural class of the Union County (Ark.) Sports Hall of Fame.

Kansas State, Lafayette College (Pa.) and College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) have joined the NFF as Institutional Academic Members.

The National College Football Awards Association has completed its rollout of 2011 watch lists.

The NFF is auctioning a signed helmet of 2010 College Football Hall of Famer Randy Cross (UCLA) here. Bidding remains open until Sunday, July 31. Proceeds benefit the NFF's postgraduate scholarship fund.

The NFF Rhode Island Chapter will be sponsoring its 24th Golf Classic on July 19th at the Cranston Country Club in Cranston, R.I. . . . The NFF Nebraska Chapter is hosting its Hall of Fame dinner on Sept. 9 at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. . . . The NFF Maine Chapter is hosting its kickoff luncheon on Friday, August 5.

The Big East announced today that it will produce a live show from Football Media Day exclusively on bigeast.tv. . . . CSS will show Southern Miss at Marshall at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 10, Southern Miss at Rice at 7:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 1, Memphis at Rice at 12:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 8 and Memphis at Southern Miss at 4 p.m. ET on Nov. 26. . . . New Mexico State head coach DeWayne Walker and five players spoke and conducted drills at the Las Cruces Youth Football Camp on Wednesday, July 13. . . . Donations to the Tiger Scholarship Fund at Memphis have topped $7 million for the third consecutive year. . . . The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl will host its second youth clinic on Saturday, July 23, at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

Larry Allen (Sonoma State (Calif.)), Fred McAfee (Mississippi College) and Coach Bill Burgess (Jacksonville State (Miss.)) have been chosen to the Division II Football Hall of Fame. . . . Clemson has signed StubHub as its official fan-to-fan ticket seller. . . . Wyoming will wear new uniforms this season. The school surpassed 10,000 season ticket sales for the first time in history this week. . . . South Carolina has altered its uniforms for this season. . . . XOS Digital will provide high-definition broadcast content at Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium. . . . Texas Tech fans may vote on what game to "Black Out" during the 2011 season. . . . The AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl announced on Friday that Dr. Kyle Pierce has been named the bowl's 2011 Carl Mikovich Sportsperson of the Year. . . . Arkansas' R.S.V.P. program increased membership to the Razorback Foundation by 20 percent and raised more than $18 million for the athletics department. . . . The Patriot League will announce its 25th Anniversary Team on Monday, July 25.

Obituaries

Former Delaware player Manny Marshall passed away Monday, July 11. He was 24. . . . Former Youngstown State football player Ralph Goldston died at the age of 82 on Saturday, July 9. . . . Former Navy player Ned Olham passed away Tuesday, June 28 at 74.
