Hall of Fame Candidate Capsule: Randall Cunningham

Leading in to the announcement of the 2012 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation highlights members on the Hall of Fame Ballot. The 2012 Class will be announced on May 15 in New York City.

POSITION: Punter/Quarterback

YEARS: 1982-84

ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A Second Team All-America at punter and Honorable Mention All-America pick at quarterback in 1984, Cunningham remains one of the most multitalented players in recent college football history. Cunningham was the third quarterback in college football history, following College Football Hall of Famers John Elway and Doug Flutie, to throw for more than 2,500 yards in three straight seasons. A two-time Pacific Coast Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time First Team All-PCAA punter, he led the Rebels to the 1984 league championship while setting single-season and career punting records. Cunningham still holds school records for career passing yards, lowest career interception percentage, career touchdown passes, career total offense and punting average, among others.

CIVIC SERVICE: Cunningham has performed immeasurable community service through his work in the ministry. He also received 2012 NFL Alumni Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for community service.

NOTABLES: The brother of 2010 College Football Hall of Fame inductee Sam Cunningham (USC), he is a member of the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame. Cunningham’s No. 12 jersey is the only jersey retired by the UNLV football program.
