Hall of Fame Candidate Capsule: Duncan McColl

Leading in to the announcement of the 2012 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation highlights members on the Hall of Fame Ballot. The 2012 Class will be announced on May 15 in New York City.

SCHOOL: Stanford

POSITION: Defensive end

YEARS: 1973-76

ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A member of the All-Coast Team by both the Associated Press and UPI, McColl was a two-time All-Pac 8 honoree. Named the Northern California Player of the Year by the Nor-Cal Football Writers, he set school records with 17 sacks and 26 tackles for loss in a single season.

ACADEMIC HONORS: A 1976 NFF National Scholar-Athlete, he was named the National Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and won an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. McColl also won the Al Masters Award for leadership, scholarship and athletic ability. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Stanford in 1977 and an MBA from USC in 1980, McColl served as class president while earning a master of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1995.

NOTABLES: His father, Bill McColl, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1973 and his younger brother, Milt McColl, followed Duncan as an NFF National Scholar-Athlete in 1980.
