Hall of Fame Candidate Capsule: Bob McKay

Leading in to the announcement of the 2012 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation highlights members on the Hall of Fame Ballot. The 2012 Class will be announced on May 15 in New York City.

SCHOOL: Texas

POSITION: Offensive tackle

YEARS: 1968-69

ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A consensus All-American for College Football Hall of Fame coach Darrell Royal’s 1969 national champions, McKay was also named a First Team All-Southwest Conference performer that season. He helped the Longhorns earn a 20-1-1 record with two SWC championships and two AP top three finishes while in the starting lineup. He participated in the Coaches All-America Game and the Hula Bowl as a senior.  

POST-COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CAREER: Chosen in the first round of the 1970 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, McKay spent nine seasons with the Browns and New England Patriots.

NOTABLES: Elected to the Longhorn Hall of Honor in 1990, McKay was named No. 47 on the list of the 50 greatest Longhorns of all-time by Bleacher Report.
