Hall of Fame Candidate Capsule: George Mira

Leading in to the announcement of the 2012 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation highlights members on the Hall of Fame Ballot. The 2012 Class will be announced on May 15 in New York City.

SCHOOL: Miami (Fla.)

POSITION: Quarterback

YEARS: 1961-63

ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A two-time top 10 Heisman Trophy finisher, Mira was named an All-American in 1962 and led the nation in total offense in 1963. He set nearly every Hurricanes passing record by compiling 4,633 passing yards, 5,135 yards of total offense, 368 pass completions and 28 touchdowns. Mira led Miami to two bowl games and competed in four all-star games.

CIVIC SERVICE: Mira serves as a Board member of the Doral Public Junior Classic, the Dade Schools Athletic Foundation, the Dade Amateur Golf Association, the George Mira Celebrity Classic, the  Dade Amateur Championship and Miami International 4-Ball.

NOTABLES: A member of the University of Miami Hall of Fame and the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, Mira previously served as an assistant coach with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts and Westminster Christian College in St. Louis, Mo.
