Hall of Fame Candidate Capsule: Jim Otis

Leading in to the announcement of the 2012 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation highlights members on the Hall of Fame Ballot. The 2012 Class will be announced on May 15 in New York City.

SCHOOL: Ohio State

POSITION: Fullback

YEARS: 1967-69

ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A consensus First Team All-American and First Team All-Big Ten honoree in 1969, Otis helped lead the Buckeyes to the national championship in 1968. He led the club in rushing all three years on campus, and still ranks among the top ten in school history with 2,542 rushing yards and places 14th with 210 career points. Playing for College Football Hall of Fame coach Woody Hayes, Otis helped Ohio State achieve a 24-4 overall record, two Big Ten titles and a win in the 1969 Rose Bowl.  

POST-COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CAREER: Drafted in the ninth round of the 1970 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, Otis played in the NFL for nine seasons with the Saints, Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals. He led the NFC in rushing and earned All-Pro status in 1975 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.

CIVIC SERVICE: A board member of the Boys Club of St. Louis, the Kilo Foundation and the NFL Alumni National Executive Board, Otis has previously served as the president of the NFL Alumni Association’s St. Louis Chapter. He is also a member of the Arthritis Foundation, Easter Seals of Ohio, The Buddy Fund, Inc. and Clayton Chamber of Commerce
