2011 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Ryan Tannehill has been selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. The Texas A&M quarterback is the first player from the 2011 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class to be chosen. Tannehill is the highest Scholar-Athlete drafted since Wisconsin offensive tackle Joe Thomas was picked third overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2007 NFL Draft. The Big Spring, Texas, native is the fourth Scholar-Athlete drafted by the Miami Dolphins and first since Tim Ruddy of Notre Dame in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft.

Ryan Tannehill (Texas A&M, 3.63 GPA in Biology) – Graduated cum laude and named an A&M Athletics Scholar four times . . . began his career as a wide receiver before moving to quarterback, becoming the only player in FBS history to record more than than 3,000 passing yards and 1,500 receiving yards in a career . . . ranked 12th nationally in total offense with 3,744 passing yards and 306 rushing yards while accounting for 33 touchdowns . . . volunteered at local elementary schools and churches and collected presents for underprivileged children.
