Hall of Fame Candidate Capsule: Leotis Harris

Leading in to the announcement of the 2012 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation highlights members on the Hall of Fame Ballot. The 2012 Class will be announced on May 15 in New York City.

SCHOOL: Arkansas

POSITION: Offensive guard

YEARS: 1974-77

ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A consensus First Team All-American in 1977, Harris was the first African-American football player in Arkansas history. He pushed the Razorbacks to wins in the 1976 Cotton Bowl and the 1978 Orange Bowl, where they finished No. 7 and No. 3, respectively, in the final AP poll. Arkansas enjoyed a 32-12-2 overall record, and Harris helped drive the club to school records in single-season rushing yards (3,523), yards per attempt (5.35) and rushing yards per game (320.3) in 1975.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER: Drafted in the sixth round of the 1978 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, Harris played 74 games, starting 55, for the Packers.     

NOTABLES: Selected to Arkansas’ All-Century Team, he is also a member of the Razorbacks’ All-1970’s Team. Named to the Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 2005, he played for College Football Hall of Fame coaches Frank Broyles and Lou Holtz.
