Hall of Fame Candidate Capsule: Don Trull

Leading in to the announcement of the 2012 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation highlights members on the Hall of Fame Ballot. The 2012 Class will be announced on May 15 in New York City.

SCHOOL: Baylor

POSITION: Quarterback

YEARS: 1961-63

ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: The first player in Baylor history to finish in the top five of Heisman Trophy voting, Trull led the nation in passing yards in 1962 and 1963, and his 22 total touchdowns were the most nationally in 1963. The First Team All-Southwest Conference performer was chosen as the SWC MVP by the Houston Post. Trull guided the Bears to the top of the SWC in total offense in 1963, averaging 335 yards per game. He finished his career with 4,143 yards of total offense and 27 total touchdowns. Trull led the Bears to wins in the 1961 Gotham Bowl and the 1963 Bluebonnet Bowl.  

ACADEMIC HONORS: Named Baylor’s first NFF National Scholar-Athlete in 1963, Trull made the Dean’s List three times and won the 1963 Earl Blaik Fellowship Award. He was the first two-time Academic All-American in school history.  

CIVIC SERVICE: The president-elect of the NFF Touchdown Club of Houston Chapter, Trull has served as the NFL Alumni Director and the past director of the Exchange Club of Quail Valley. He has also served as the Vice Chairman of Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and the Fort Bend County Water Board of Directors.
