Hall of Fame Candidate Capsule: Clarence Williams

Leading in to the announcement of the 2012 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation highlights members on the Hall of Fame Ballot. The 2012 Class will be announced on May 15 in New York City.

SCHOOL: Washington State

POSITION: Running Back

YEARS: 1961-64

ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Williams led the Cougars in rushing, scoring, and kickoff returns as a junior and senior. The First Team All-Pac-8 honoree paced the team in total offense, pass receptions, and punt returns, as a senior. He finished his career with 295 carries for 1,456 yards and 10 touchdowns. Williams also returned 29 kickoffs for 720 yards averaging 24.8 yards per return

POST-COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Drafted by the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL and the San Diego Chargers of the AFL, Williams played eight seasons in Los Angeles.

NOTABLES: Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Washington State. He carried the nickname “Clancy” throughout his career.
