IRVING, Texas (Aug. 25, 2014) – The National Football Foundation (NFF) announced today that more than
270 NFF High School Scholar-Athletes have entered college football preseason camps this month at campuses across the country.
“The NFF Chapter Network does an exceptional job of identifying the best and the brightest high school football players nationwide,” said NFF Chairman and College Football Hall of Famer
Archie Manning. “Their drive to compete on the field and in the classroom makes them a coveted addition to any college team. Their hard work in high school has paid off, and we look forward to watching them develop as they enter the college football ranks.”
The NFF Chapter Network has identified a total of 273 scholar-athletes on college rosters this fall who claimed honors during the 2014 NFF banquet season for their high school accomplishments. The scholar-athletes have landed at schools across all levels of the NCAA and NAIA, including 43 Football Bowl Subdivision institutions from all 10 conferences as well as independents Army, BYU, Navy and Notre Dame. A total of 29 members of the 2014 NFF High School Scholar-Athlete Class have earned a chance to play in the Ivy League with at least one honoree at all eight of the prestigious institutions of the Ivy League.
“NFF chapters are guided by strong leadership, and that is evident in the quality of our chapters and the amount of outstanding young men they honor each and every year,” said NFF President and CEO
Steve Hatchell. “We are proud to highlight the names of the 2014 honorees who will continue their passion for the game at the next level this fall. Playing college football will help them hone a set of skills that will benefit them for many years to come as they enter the workforce and become leaders in their chosen professions.”
Several chapters supplied college football with a high number of scholar-athletes. The
Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter led with 30 scholar-athletes while the
NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter and
Philadelphia Chapter each produced 18 honorees. Other high-ranking chapters included the
