OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES: Oregon State (49), Oklahoma (39), Duke (35), Ole Miss (27), North Carolina (25), Miami-FL (23), Iowa (4), UCLA (2), Washington State (1).
NOTES:
Defending national champion Georgia and Big Ten powerhouse Michigan remained the top two teams in the poll for a second straight week of the regular season. But previously No. 3 Alabama fell to No.10 after its 34-24 home loss to Texas which vaulted the Longhorns from No. 11 to No.4 in the poll.
The Longhorns' big road victory sent them to their highest ranking, No.4, in this poll in its history. No. 6 is the previous high for the Longhorns. Alabama, meanwhile, dropped all the way to No. 10. The Crimson Tide, a fixture in the poll, has only been No.10 or worse three times in the poll's history. Alabama was the only team in the poll which lost on Saturday during a week when many ranked teams played FCS schools.
Notre Dame and Oregon survived road games. North Carolina posted a double-overtime home victory over Appalachian State, but fell out of the poll from the 15th spot. Replacing the Tar Heels in the poll this week is No. 16 Colorado, which has posted impressive victories over TCU and Nebraska. The Buffaloes are in the poll for the first time since Dec. 4, 2016.
The Pac-12 leads all conferences with five teams in the poll, followed by the SEC with four teams, Big Ten with three teams, Big 12 with two, ACC and Independents one each.

ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL: The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2023 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 5 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 3. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes a computer program designed by
Sports Systems to compile the rankings and the Cody Kellner Points Index to publish the individual votes.
ABOUT THE FWAA: Founded in 1941, the Football Writers Association of America consists of journalists, broadcasters, publicists, photographers and key executives in all areas of college football. The FWAA works to govern media access and gameday operations while presenting awards and honors, including an annual All-America team. For more information about the FWAA and its programs and initiatives, contact Executive Director Steve Richardson at 214-870-6516 or tiger@fwaa.com.
