NOTES:
Oregon ascended to the top spot in the poll following previously top-ranked Texas' 30-15 home loss to Georgia on Saturday night. This is the second time Oregon has been ranked No. 1 in the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll, but the first time in a decade with their last No. 1 appearance occurring on Sept. 29, 2014. The Ducks, buoyed by their defeat of Ohio State a week ago, had moved up to No. 2 and then beat Purdue, 35-0, on Friday night on the road.

Meanwhile, Texas dropped to No. 5 after its loss in Austin, and Georgia moved up to No. 2.

The other big development in the SEC was Tennessee's 24-17 victory over then No. 7 Alabama in Knoxville. The victory over the Crimson Tide lifted the Vols to where Alabama was at No. 7 last week. The Crimson Tide dropped all the way to No. 15, its lowest ranking in the history of the poll. (Alabama has been in every poll since its inception.)

No other team in the poll lost and three teams-- Ohio State, Penn State and Ole Miss were idle. As a result, the same 16 teams were ranked from a week ago.

The SEC leads all conferences with seven teams, followed by the Big Ten with four, the ACC and Big 12 with two each, and independents one.

THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE:
Illinois at No. 1 Oregon
No. 2 Georgia is idle
No. 3 Penn State at Wisconsin
Nebraska at No. 4 Ohio State
Florida State at No. 5 Miami (FL)
No. 6 Texas at Vanderbilt
No. 7 Tennessee is idle
No. 8 Clemson is idle
No. 9  LSU at No. 14 Texas A&M
No. 10 Iowa State is idle
No. 11 BYU at UCF
Washington at No. 12 Indiana
No. 13 Notre Dame vs. Navy (New Jersey)
Missouri at No. 15 Alabama
Oklahoma at No.16 Ole Miss

ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL: The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2024 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 3 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 8. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes a computer program designed by Sports Systems to compile the rankings and the Cody Kellner Points Index to publish the individual votes.

ABOUT THE FWAA: Founded in 1941, the Football Writers Association of America consists of journalists, broadcasters, publicists, photographers and key executives in all areas of college football. The FWAA works to govern media access and gameday operations while presenting awards and honors, including an annual All-America team.
