NOTES:
Oregon picked up 52 of 54 first-place votes and remained No. 1 for the eighth consecutive week after a 45-37 win over Penn State in the Big Ten Championship. Penn State fell three spots to No. 6 by virtue of the loss to the Ducks. Oregon is the first team outside of the SEC since Ohio State in 2015 to hold the No. 1 spot in the poll for at least eight consecutive weeks.
Georgia advanced three spots to No. 2 after a 22-19 overtime victory against Texas in the SEC Championship. The Longhorns dropped two slots to No. 4 after the narrow loss in Atlanta.
Notre Dame climbed one spot to No. 3 after being idle during conference championship weekend.
Boise State moved up one spot to No. 9 after a 14-point victory over UNLV in the Mountain West Conference Championship.
Arizona State advanced three spots to No. 10 by virtue of a 45-19 win against Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship. The Cyclones fell out of the poll completely after the loss to the Sun Devils.
Clemson returned to the poll after defeating SMU 34-31 in the ACC Championship. SMU fell four spots to No. 12 after the last-second loss to the Tigers in Charlotte.
The SEC leads all conferences with six teams. The Big Ten has four, the ACC has three, the Big 12, Mountain West Conference and FBS Independents have one each.
ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL: The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2024 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 3 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 8. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes a computer program designed by Sports Systems to compile the rankings and the Cody Kellner Points Index to publish the individual votes.
