NOTES:
Alabama claimed 28 of 54 first-place votes, moving into the No. 1 spot for the first time since Oct. 2, 2022 after defeating last week's No. 2 team Georgia, 41-34, at home in Week 5. The top ranking for the Crimson Tide marks the 62nd appearance at No. 1, which is more than any team in the history of the poll. An SEC team has been ranked No. 1 in this poll 61 of the last 62 weeks dating back to Sept. 29, 2019.

Texas dropped one slot to No. 2 while Georgia fell three spots to No. 5 by virtue of Alabama's win.

Ole Miss tumbled six spots to No. 12 after a three-point loss to Kentucky at home.

Clemson advanced three spots to No. 13 after defeating Stanford at home, marking the highest ranking for the Tigers since a No. 8 appearance in last season's preseason poll.

Louisville and Utah fell out of the poll completely after suffering losses in Week 5.

Notre Dame and Iowa State moved into the poll claiming Nos. 15 and 16 respectively. Iowa State's No. 16 ranking marks the first appearance in the poll for Cyclones since a No. 14 ranking on Sept. 19, 2021.

The SEC leads all conferences with seven teams, followed by the Big Ten with five, ACC with two and the Big 12 and FBS Independents with one each.

ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL: The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2024 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 3 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 8. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes a computer program designed by Sports Systems to compile the rankings and the Cody Kellner Points Index to publish the individual votes.
