Gregg Carr Set for Nov. 29 NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, Presented by Fidelity Investments®, at Auburn

Carr, who played for the Tigers from 1981 to 1984, is a member of the 2025 NFF College Football Hall of Fame Class.

IRVING, Texas (Nov. 25, 2025) – Auburn University and The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that they will jointly honor 2025 NFF College Football Hall of Fame electee Gregg Carr with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments. The Salute will take place on Nov. 29, during the Tigers' home football game against Alabama, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

"The heart of the Auburn defense in the early 1980s, Gregg Carr established himself as a hard-hitting and instinctive linebacker with game-changing playmaking abilities, creating a legacy as one of the greatest to ever play the position," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "We are thrilled to honor him at Jordan-Hare Stadium as a member of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class."

The NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute program, which began with the inaugural NFF College Football Hall of Fame Class in 1951, has become a hallowed tradition, and to this day, the singular events remain the first of numerous activities in the NFF Hall of Fame experience.

During the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, each electee returns to his respective school to accept an NFF Hall of Fame plaque that will stay on permanent display at the institution. The events take place on the field during a home game, and many NFF Hall of Famers cite the experience as the ultimate capstone to their careers, providing them with one more chance to take the field and be recognized in front of their home crowd.

A consensus First Team All-American in 1984, Carr amassed 453 career tackles, currently ranking him second in school history. His career total includes 289 solo tackles, which also ranks second in the school record books. An NFF National Scholar-Athlete and playing for College Football Hall of Fame coach Pat Dye, Carr helped the Tigers to a 34-14 record, an SEC title and victories in the 1982 Tangerine Bowl, the 1984 Sugar Bowl and the 1984 Liberty Bowl. The Birmingham, Alabama, product now becomes the ninth Tiger player inducted into the Hall, joining Jimmy Hitchcock (1930-32), Walter Gilbert (1934-36), Ed Dyas (1958-60), Tucker Frederickson (1962-64), Pat Sullivan (1969-71), Terry Beasley (1969-71), Bo Jackson (1982-85), and Tracy Rocker (1985-88). Hall of Fame coaches who headed the Auburn program include Michael Donahue, Pat Dye, John Heisman and Shug Jordan.

Larry Blakeney, who both played and served as an assistant coach at Auburn, is also a member of the 2025 NFF College Football Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements as Troy's head coach. Blakeney coached at Troy from 1991-2014, winning 61.1 percent of his games.

Including the 2025 NFF Hall of Fame Class, only 1,111 players and 237 coaches have been inducted into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame from the nearly 5.62 million who have played or coached the game during the past 157 years. In other words, less than two one-hundredths of a percent (0.02%) of the individuals who have played/coached the game have earned this distinction.
