On the evening of April 18, roughly two dozen former and current UCLA quarterbacks gathered for a fundraising dinner at UCLA's Luskin Center. Representing seven decades of Bruin football, the quarterbacks served as the centerpiece of an event that raised funds for UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.
The second iteration of the gala (the first was held in 2023) generated more funds than the inaugural event through ticket sales, sponsorships and a silent auction featuring UCLA gear signed by the quarterbacks.
The event originated from a conversation between 2000s-era quarterback Pat Cowan and 1967 Heisman Trophy winner Gary Beban. Cowan, along with 1980s quarterback Matt Stevens, led the effort to secure commitments from their fellow Bruins.
Quarterbacks in attendance included four members of the NFF College Football Hall of Fame: Beban, John Sciarra, Troy Aikman and Cade McNown. New UCLA head coach Bob Chesney mingled with the former Bruins signal-callers and addressed attendees. Current quarterbacks Nico and Madden Iamaleava were also present. The program featured a Q&A session with McNown and Tom Ramsey, emceed by UCLA radio play-by-play voice Josh Lewin.
The day prior to the event, many of the quarterbacks toured UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, visiting with numerous patients. The group also observed practice on Saturday morning and met with members of the current team.
