NOTES:
The preseason Super 16 went a combined 16-0 in Week 1. Ohio State remained No. 1 with a 56-3 victory over Ball State in Columbus, marking the 16th consecutive week a Big Ten member claimed the top spot in the poll.

Texas moved up one spot to No. 3 after a dominant 52-point win at home against Texas State.

Notre Dame, Miami (FL), Ole Miss and LSU are the only ranked teams to claim wins over opponents from an Autonomous Four conference in Week 1. The Fighting Irish advanced one spot to No. 2 after defeating Wisconsin 41-13 at Lambeau Field.

The Hurricanes moved up two spots to No. 5 after a 45-6 conference victory at Stanford. Ole Miss fell one spot to No. 9 after defeating Louisville 41-38 in Nashville, while LSU leaped four slots to No. 8 after a decisive 51-10 win at home against Clemson.

Oregon slipped five spots to No. 7 after a narrow 34-27 victory over Boise State at home.

Michigan, last week's No. 16 team, fell out of the poll despite a 13-12 win at home against Western Michigan. Penn State moved into the poll to claim the No. 16 ranking.

The SEC leads all conferences with seven teams followed by the Big Ten with five, the Big 12 with two, the ACC with one and the FBS Independents with one.

ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL:

The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2026 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 8 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 6. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes a computer program designed by TicketManager to compile the rankings and Kellner Ratings to publish the individual votes.
