Biography

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix became the 34th recipient of the Campbell Trophy® during the 65th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas.

After graduating magna cum laude with a 3.62 GPA in communications from Auburn (where he was the three-year starting quarterback from 2019-21), Nix carried a 3.91 post-graduate GPA while at Oregon. A 2023 First Team Academic All-American and the Pac-12 Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Nix was a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll member at Oregon and a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree while playing at Auburn.

Nix put together arguably the most prolific season ever by an Oregon quarterback in 2023, finishing third in the Heisman Trophy voting while setting the NCAA single-season record for completion percentage 77.45 (364-of-470). He led the nation with 51 total touchdowns and broke the Oregon single-season records for completions (364), passing yards (4,508) and passing touchdowns (45) while throwing just three interceptions. Nix finished his career at Oregon as the Ducks’ all-time leader in completion percentage (74.9) while ranking third in completions (658), third in passing touchdowns (74) and fifth in passing yards (8,101).

A three-year captain (two years at Oregon and one at Auburn) and a four-year letterman, Nix led the 2023 Ducks (12-2) to an appearance in the Pac-12 Championship Game, a win in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl and a No. 6 ranking in the final AP Poll. In his first season with the Ducks, Nix led Oregon to a 10-3 record, a victory in the Holiday Bowl and a No. 15 final ranking in 2022.

At Auburn, he quarterbacked the Tigers to three consecutive bowl appearances, including the 2002 Outback Bowl and a No. 14 final ranking, the 2021 Citrus Bowl and the 2021 Birmingham Bowl. He was the first true freshman quarterback to start a season opener for Auburn since 1946.  His 61 career starts made him the most experienced quarterback in NCAA history. During his five seasons as a starter, he passed for 15,532 yards and 113 touchdowns while rushing for 1,613 yards and 38 touchdowns.

In addition to winning the William V. Campbell Trophy® in 2023, Nix was the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and an AP Third Team AllAmerica selection. He was also a finalist for the Maxwell Award, the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, the Walter Camp Player
of the Year and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Active in the community, Nix participated in the first-ever Cleat Crew program to raise support for PeaceHealth Sacred Heart in Eugene, and he also teamed up with the ALS Association of Oregon and Southwest Washington to pledge money for every touchdown he scored to support programs and services for individuals and families affected by ALS. Nix hosted a football camp for kids, participated in multiple reading nights and other activities at local elementary schools; and assisted with the Food for Lane County outreach event.

The Pinson, Alabama, native became the Ducks’ second Campbell Trophy® winner, joining 2019 recipient Justin Herbert. He is the school’s fourth NFF National Scholar-Athlete, including Herbert, William Musgrave (1990) and Dennis Dixon (2007).
