Biography
Matching a 4.01 GPA in the classroom with his record-setting performance on the field, Justin Herbert’s exceptional accomplishments place him among the best student-athletes in the history of college football.
Herbert graduated with a degree in science. In 2019, he became the first Oregon player to earn the Pac-12 Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The Academic All-American of the Year in both 2018 and 2019, he was named a First Team Academic All-American three times.
As a senior, Herbert guided the Ducks to a 12-2 record, a No. 5 national ranking and the 2019 Pac-12 title. He capped his career earning Offensive MVP honors in Oregon’s win over Wisconsin in the 106th Rose Bowl Game.
A 2019 Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honoree, Herbert completed 286 passes for 3,471 yards and 32 touchdowns during his senior campaign. It was his second consecutive season with more than 3,000 passing yards.
For his career, he is one of just two Oregon quarterbacks to surpass 10,000 passing yards, as the senior now boasts 10,541 in second place all-time in school annals. Herbert owns school career records for completions (827) and pass attempts (1,293) while his 95 career touchdown passes rank second at Oregon and sixth in Pac-12 history.
The first true freshman to start at quarterback for Oregon since 1983, he became the fastest player in program history to reach 4,000 passing yards (17 games) and 5,000 passing yards (21 games). Herbert previously led the Ducks to bowl berths in 2017 and 2018, including a win over Michigan State in the 2018 Redbox Bowl.
Active off the field, Herbert participated in a service trip to Uganda in 2018 among many other service events.
Herbert completed his second NFL season after being selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, marking the second highest selection of a Campbell Trophy® recipient in its history. He was named the 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after setting rookie records with 31 passing touchdowns, 36 total touchdowns and 396 completions. His 4,336 passing yards in 2020 rank second all-time among NFL rookie quarterbacks.
In 2021, Hebert set Chargers single-season records with 5,014 passing yards and 38 passing touchdowns while being named to his first Pro Bowl, where he was named the game's Offensive MVP. He has accumulated the most passing yards (9,350), most touchdown passes (69) and most completions (839) in the first two seasons of a career in NFL history.
