William V. Campbell Trophy® Recipients
Biography
One of the most celebrated student-athletes in college football history, Tim Tebow quarterbacked Florida to the 2008 BCS National Championship, while also making a significant contribution to the Gators’ 2006 title. He became the first sophomore in history to win the Heisman Trophy, and he became only the second individual to claim both a Heisman and Campbell Trophy®.
Boasting a 3.66 GPA as a family, youth & community sciences major, Tebow was twice named ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-American of the Year.
Ranking second in FBS history with a 170.8 career passing efficiency rating, he threw for 9,285 yards and 88 touchdowns in his four seasons with the Gators while also gaining 2,947 yards on the ground with 57 rushing touchdowns, both school records by a Florida QB. He claimed back-to-back SEC Offensive Player of the Year honors, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Manning Award, back-to-back Maxwell Awards and the Sullivan Award, which is annually presented to the nation’s top amateur athlete.
He is the only player in NCAA history to rush and pass for at least 20 touchdowns in a season (2007). Tebow finished his career with five NCAA, 14 SEC and 28 UF records. He was inducted into the UF Football Ring of Honor in 2018.
He has spent nearly every summer of his life participating in mission trips to help the less fortunate. In 2009 alone, he dedicated nearly 700 hours to community service efforts and appearances, including hospital and orphanage visits, and he was named the 2008 Wuerffel Trophy recipient for his exemplary outreach.
Selected No. 25 overall in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, Tebow led the Broncos to the AFC Divisional Playoffs after the 2011 season. His NFL career also featured stints with the Jets, Patriots and Eagles, as well as a comeback attempt in 2021 with the Jaguars.
He launched the Tim Tebow Foundation in 2010, and the organization’s initiatives include hosting prom nights for people with special needs and opening playrooms in hospitals to serve children going through medical challenges.
From 2016-19, Tebow played minor league baseball in the New York Mets organization. An analyst on the SEC Network’s Saturday morning pregame show, “SEC Nation,” he also appears on ESPN’s “First Take,” has produced a movie and has authored a number of books.
