NFF Chapter Leadership Award Recipients
Biography
Andy Talley's career is all about winning. In the early 1990s, he rebuilt the fortunes of the Philadelphia Chapter of The National Football Foundation and turned the Villanova University football program into one of the most recognized and successful I-AA teams in the country. He is currently the only college head football coach that serves as president of a NFF Chapter.
At a time when the Philadelphia chapter was in need of new leadership, Andy rose to the occasion. His love for football, his organizational skills and his desire to help the community provided the means to revitalize the chapter. During this time, chapter membership has doubled and a strong relationship has been built with coaches, officials, and schools in the area.
Prior to arriving at Villanova, Coach Talley compiled a 28-18 record during five seasons at St. Lawrence University. In 1984 he inherited a football program that had dropped the sport just four years earlier. In Talley's first season, he guided the Wildcats who played a limited schedule to a perfect 5-0 record. Since that opening campaign, Villanova teams earned NCAA Division I-AA Playoff appearances in 1989, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014. His 1989, 1991, 1997, 2001, 2009 and 2012 squads were conference champions, while the 1992 team was voted the Lambert-Meadowlands Trophy champions as the top I-AA team in the East. In 2009, Talley led the Wildcats to their first-ever national championship, defeating the Montana Grizzlies 23-21. He is the winningest coach in the school's history with a 215-128-1 record.
Among his many charitable contributions to the Philadelphia area, Coach Talley is very dedicated to the National Bone Marrow Foundation. In addition, he is responsible for rallying Philadelphia area college football programs in "Football United for Life", a program that promotes testing of potential bone marrow donors. In addition to these interests, he serves as chairman of the District 2 district screening committee, which selects the candidates that will appear on the annual College Football Hall of Fame ballot. Andy and his wife, Arlene, have one son and one daughter.
