Biography
Bill Dooley, brother of College Football Hall of Fame head coach Vince Dooley, is recognized as the coach who revitalized North Carolina and ACC football and is credited with forming the Triangle Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Dooley was a guard at Mississippi State and began his coaching career there soon after graduation as the freshman offensive line coach and eventually the varsity offensive line coach. He spent two years at Georgia before embarking on a decade long coaching stint with the Tar Heels. Dooley led UNC to a 69-53-2 record, six bowl games and three ACC titles. He was named ACC Coach of the Year on three occasions.
Following his time as a coach, Dooley took over the role of Director of the North Carolina Sports Development Office in 1993. He has been inducted into seven Halls of Fames, including the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
