Biography

Bill Farkas has left a lasting impact on future generations during a nearly half-century career in education.

After graduating from Clifton High School in New Jersey, Farkas attended the University of Denver, where he was a member of the school’s last football team. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Denver in 1961, and he would later earn his master’s from Montclair State University.

Following service in the Marine Corps, Farkas coached high school football for more than 30 years, first as a defensive coach for Eastside High School in Paterson, N.J., and then as the head coach at Nutley High School in Nutley, N.J.

He also served as a physical education and health teacher for 35 years, a career counselor for 13 years and the owner of Arrowhead Day Camp for 25 years. Farkas retired from teaching in 2009.

Farkas has been a member of the National Football Foundation for 30 years, and he has spent the past 10 as the president of the Passaic County Chapter. The chapter annually honors outstanding student-athletes from 15 area high schools, and it has raised and distributed $300,000 in scholarships during Farkas’ tenure. He also organizes the annual Sports Nut Night, which serves as the chief fundraiser for the chapter’s scholarships and brings together the entire membership for a fun evening of games and activities.

“It’s wonderful to be part of the National Football Foundation and the Passaic County Chapter,” said Farkas. “Recognizing deserving football scholar-athletes and helping them continue their education has been very satisfying.”

Farkas lives with his wife of 50 years, Jean, in Wayne, N.J., and they have three children and four grandsons. His hobbies include watching high school football and attending the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament.
