Biography
Born in Benton Harbor, Mich., Starck was an all-state football player at St. John’s High School and went on to play at Purdue University. Starck entered World War II as a bombardier for the United States Air Force, and then returned to the Michiana area to work for the insurance company his father founded and operated for more than 60 years. Until Starck’s death in 2005, he served as the agency’s president. For more than 30 years, Starck also worked as a statistician and color commentator for Notre Dame football games as well as local high school games on WNDU-TV and radio. He was also the president of the Moose Krause chapter of the National Football Foundation and was a major influence of the College Football Hall of Fame’s move to its previous location in South Bend, Ind. Starck passed away Aug. 21, 2005, at the age of 82.
