Biography
In 2011, Brent Steuerwald retired from Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, N.Y., after a 43-year coaching career with the Plainsmen. Steuerwald was named the school’s athletics director in 1968 after stints as a line coach at two New York high schools, and soon after, started the school’s football program. Steuerwald was named the program’s first head coach and racked up 318 wins and three state titles over the next 43 seasons.
Steuerwald has been named Area Coach of the Year 19 times and State Coach of the Year three times. In 1995, he was named National Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches’ Association. He founded the Capital Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1987 and served as president until 2009.
