NFF Chapter Leadership Award Recipients
Biography
Bobby Dodd, former Georgia Tech head coach and College Football Hall of Famer, regarded George Morris as the finest player he ever coached. Morris was inducted into the Hall of Fame himself in 1981 after an outstanding career as a linebacker for the Yellowjackets from 1950-52.
After a season with the San Francisco 49ers, Morris returned to Atlanta to start his own sports marketing company called George Morris and Associates, Inc. He served as a Southeastern Conference official from 1960-89, before taking the role of president of the Atlanta Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Through his leadership, he arranged for 32 Atlanta-area scholar-athletes to receive $32,500 in scholarships sponsored by Texaco in conjunction with the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
Morris is a member of the State of Mississippi Hall of Fame and the State of Georgia Hall of Fame. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 76 from an apparent heart attack.
