Biography

Redefining competition both on the field and in the classroom, Greg Rommel established a legacy at Henninger High School that will never be forgotten.

The class valedictorian with a near perfect 99.3 GPA, Rommel also was named the Spaulding New York State Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2001 and received the Joe Witowski Award for the highest academic average among football teams in his region.

A four-year starter for the Black Knights at quarterback, Rommel finished his high school career as the Section 3 all-time passing leader with 6,118 career yards, a total that also places him number two in the history of the entire state. A complete player with speed and natural passing abilities, he captured the monikers of All-League and All-County for three years straight and All-State twice.

Away from his passion of football, Rommel excelled in lacrosse, being named Player of the Year in Central NY and earning All-America recognition, while also willingly giving time to volunteer as a member of the St. Margaret's Church group and at a local soup kitchen.

Although he said he could not imagine a fall without football; Rommel chose to accept a full lacrosse scholarship to Syracuse University and an annual shot at a national title.
