NFF Chapter Leadership Award Recipients
Biography
A high school coaching legend in California, Herb Hill has served the Orange County Chapter for many years as president and a long-time member of its board of directors.
Under Hill's tireless leadership, the Orange County Chapter has played an important role in making a major difference in promoting football throughout the local community and state. In addition to their annual scholar-athlete banquet at the Anaheim Convention Center, the chapter hosts a highly popular golf outing with proceeds going to their scholarship fund.
The chapter has also developed relationships with Goodwill Industries, providing volunteers to work with disabled children, and the Orange County Discovery Science Center, where members assist with a variety of tasks at the state-of-the-art science and technology facility for young people.
Known for his outstanding high school coaching career, Hill's leadership ability is well known throughout the region and state. During more than 40 years as a head coach, Hill established himself as one of the most successful coaches in the State of California. His many head coaching jobs included stints at Rancho Alamito High School (1956-1959), Loara High School (1962-1990) and San Jacinto High School (1994-1997). His teams won an impressive ten league championships and twice have claimed California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section crowns. He earned state coach of the year honors on five occasions and was named Coach of the Decade for the 1970's.
A 1953 graduate of Occidental College, Hill played football for the Tigers, twice being named an All-Conference selection. He has been a past president of the American Football Coaches Association of Southern California (1979-1980) and served on the Board of Directors of AFCA's Clinic Committee (1981-1990). He also directed the National Football Foundation's West Region Desert Golf Classic in Palm Springs.
Herb and his wife Karyn live in San Jacinto, California and are the parents of four grown children.
