Biography

As a 5-9, 180-pounder, Ike Sewell had a standout career as a lineman at the University of Texas. He won All-Southwest Conference honors for three seasons from 1926-29. Following graduation, he spent his first six years with American Airlines and then moved to Chicago where he resided until his death in 1990. He joined Fleishman Distilling Corporation, where he spent 32 years and retired as vice-president in 1965.

Sewell was known in Chicago as a man dedicated to numerous charities and social organizations. He served as president and a board member of the Tavern Club. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Sigma Chi Foundation and a board member of the 100 Club of Cook County, an organization that raises funds to provide services to the families of Chicago policemen and firemen who are killed in the line of duty. He was the owner of Su Casa Restaurant in Chicago and also owned the famous Pizzeria Uno.
