After serving as the first sports information director at his alma mater, Brown University, Lew Shaw was hired with a major insurance company to work on a national advertising campaign featuring illustrations by Norman Rockwell. As a result of this, Shaw went on to establish his own marketing and public relations firm, edited the weekly newspaper and headed a regional tourism promotion agency.
In 1983, he moved to Arizona where he served as executive director of two non-profit organizations, marketing director to the Annual Scottsdale Dixieland Jazz Festival and an associate editor of a nationally circulated traditional jazz newspaper. He has been an officer or director of more than 30 civic and educational organizations.
