NFF Chapter Leadership Award Recipients
Biography
A native of Wrightsville, Ga., Loran Smith began his legacy in the state of Georgia as the MVP of the University of Georgia Track team in 1959 and the captain in 1960. Following graduation, Smith spent most of his professional life with the Bulldogs as Assistant Sports Information Director, Business Manager and Executive Director of the Georgia Bulldog Club. He was also a member of the Athletic Association Development Office.
He has also served as executive producer of the football coach's television show, packager of the game radio broadcasts, host of the Mark Richt postgame locker room show and sideline reporter during the games. He served for many years as co-host of the pregame Tailgate Show.
Smith has established an impressive portfolio as an author with 11 published books about the Bulldog football team and five books on The Masters. Smith was once the editor of the game day program and still writes a regular column that is used by the Athens Banner Herald and several other newspapers in the state.
Smith is a past chairman of the State of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1997. Smith is a former publicity director of the Coaches All-America game, former Secretary of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association and Executive Director of the Georgia High School All-Star games.
He is also recognized as the “heart and soul” of the University of Georgia Chapter of the National Football Foundation, because of his major role in planning the Annual Awards Dinner and the celebrity golf tournament that attracts more than 400 new members annually.
