Biography

Truly the epitome of the term "scholar-athlete," few have excelled athletically and academically at the level of wide receiver Marcus Monk.

Maintaining an impressive 3.9 GPA, Monk appeared on the East Poinsett County High School Super Honor Roll every semester of his four-year career. A recipient of the Math Achievement and National Academic Achievement Awards, he was an AP Merit Scholar and member of the Key Club and National Honor Society. Culminating a stellar academic ledger, his #1 ranking in his senior class earned him being named Valedictorian.

Named All-America by Rivals and SuperPrep, Monk struck fear in defensive secondaries. A three-time First Team All-Conference and two-time First Team All-State performer, he was named Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Male Athlete of the Year and earned a place on Lindy's Magazine's top incoming freshman to the SEC list. In his junior and senior seasons alone, Monk recorded more than 2,100 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns.

Possessing great leadership off the gridiron, Monk was the senior class president, National Honor Society president and a Math and Science Clubs officer. In additional to his football prowess, he also garnered All-America, All-State and All-Conference honors as a standout basketball player.

Monk caught 138 passes for 2,151 yards and 27 touchdowns in four seasons on the University of Arkansas football team and was selected in the seventh round (248th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. In 2008 and 2009, he also appeared on the rosters of the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants. Monk earned his MBA from Arkansas and is currently the executive director of the Arkansas Wings AAU basketball team.
