NFF National High School Scholar-Athlete Award Recipients
Biography
With a GPA of 4.52, Matthew Hostetler ranked number one in his senior class at River Hill High School, adding more than an exclamation point to his stellar on-field accomplishments.
During his three years as the starting quarterback for the Hawks, Hostetler threw for more than 3,200 yards and 38 touchdowns, placing him in an elite group of only three players in Howard County history to have passed for more than 3,000 career yards. On defense, Hostetler thwarted opponents from the cornerback position, amassing 61 tackles and two interceptions during his senior year. His athletic prowess extended into the basketball and track seasons, where he captained both teams and led River Hill to its first county hoops title ever.
Between earning recognition as a member of the National Honor Society and his gridiron accomplishments, Hostetler found time to participate as a member of the Student Government Association and a Christian Youth Group while rounding out his community service activities with a books reading program, a "Relay for Life", and a Cystic Fibrosis Walk-A-Thon.
Hostetler's family tree boasts a strong lineage of football players and scholars. His father Doug played quarterback and linebacker at Penn State from 1976-78. His uncle Jeff received a prestigious National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award in 1993 while at West Virginia and later quarterbacked the New York Giants to a Super Bowl victory in 1991.
Matt played at Brown University while earning his bachelor's in economics. He earned his MBA from Harvard University and is currently an investor for JAT Capital Management, a multi-billion-dollar global equity investment firm that invests in the telecommunications, media and technology, travel, leisure and gaming sectors.
