Biography

One name transcends the over 40-year history of the Essex County Chapter - Horn. Beginning with Don Horn and then Peter, the Horn family has provided the leadership and necessary resources that have enabled the Chapter to excel in their mission of advancing the game of amateur football in the Essex County community.

Horn played a significant role in the selection of Orange High School as one of the four pilot schools in the NFF's PLAY IT SMART program, which places academic coaches on high school football teams to help the players with their academic and personal development. He continues to be of assistance to the student-athletes at Orange H.S., in some instances helping find employment in the area. In addition, Peter has conducted several events, including a highly successful "Sports Nut" night to raise money for their scholarship fund. The Chapter has also held a coaches clinic the past two years.

A 1978 graduate of Montclair State University with a degree in Physical Education and Recreation, Horn played two years of varsity football and four years of varsity baseball. As a sophomore baseball player at Montclair State, he was selected NCAA Division II honorable mention All-America in 1976 and a first team All-America in both 1977 and 1978. Peter was a member of the 1976, 1977 and 1978 New Jersey All-University teams and participated in two NCAA Division II College World Series. For his accomplishments, he was elected to the Montclair State University Hall of Fame in 1988, his first year of eligibility.

Horn and his family own and operate Pals Cabin Restaurant and Mayfair Farms Catering in West Orange, New Jersey and have hosted the Essex County Chapter annual scholar-athlete banquet and other events for more than 40 years. He is also an active member of the West Orange Rotary Club.

Peter resides in Caldwell, New Jersey with this wife Demi, their son and two daughters.
