West Region - NFF Orange County (CA) Chapter
The definition of an-every-down player in high school, Steve McKay has taken on a similar role with the NFF
Orange County Chapter, assuming essential roles in every position he has held with the NFF.
McKay attended Creighton Community High School in Nebraska where he was a three-position star on the football team, lining up at quarterback, defensive end and punter. After high school, McKay attended the University of Nebraska where he would earn degrees in finance, economics, and business administration in 1985. McKay would later attend Vanguard University in Southern California, earning another degree in organizational management in 1996.
For the past 17 years, McKay has developed his own realty business, McKay & Associates Realty, Inc. He has also stayed close to the game of football by officiating high school games for 10 years and college games for eight seasons. Additionally, McKay has picked up work with the Los Angeles Chargers and is in his second year as a member of their "chain gang" for their home games.
McKay attended his first NFF
Orange County Chapter meeting nine years ago and inquisitively asked, "Why doesn't the
Orange County Chapter have a secretary or treasurer?" After some deliberation between the president and board members, a vote was made and McKay was named the secretary of the chapter. After serving as secretary for two years, McKay has now been the chapter's president for four and a half years, and he loves every minute of it. Everything that needs to get done, gets done with McKay running the show, and he is very grateful for all of the people, coaches, and families he has been able to interact with throughout his tenure with the chapter.
"The passion I have for honoring scholar-athletes each and every year is a fantastic feeling," said McKay. "Seeing the scholar-athletes, our
Orange County Chapter honors each year, competing on TV and throwing the winning touchdown feels awesome."
McKay and his wife, Rose, reside in Anaheim Hills, California. They have four children and six grandchildren dispersed across the country from southern California to Philadelphia. McKay continues to cheer for his home-state Nebraska Cornhuskers football team.
