NFF Chapter Leadership Award Recipients
Biography
Vernon Korhn's longtime dedication and commitment to student-athletes has been vital to the success of the Tampa Chapter.
Korhn's tireless efforts while serving in many leadership roles has allowed the Chapter to play a significant part in the game of football's advancement throughout the Tampa area. He has administered the Chapter's annual Coach of the Year luncheon since 1991 and has organized their annual scholar-athlete banquet since 1996. Vernon has been in charge of the Chapter's highly successful Recruiting Fair for high school football players since 1998. He received the Chapter's Contribution to Amateur Football in 1991 and served as its president in 1996.
A 1968 graduate of the University of Tampa, Vernon received his Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of South Florida in 1978. He began his teaching and coaching career in 1968 and has served as the Director of Athletics for the Hillsborough County School District since 2000. During his career, he coached football, wrestling, swimming, track and basketball. Among his many honors in high school athletics, he was named Hillsborough County Football Coach of the Year in 1974 and Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1971.
As a school administrator, Korhn was honored with the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA) Award for Meritorious Service and the FIAAA Administrator of the Year Award. He has overseen the Hillsborough County School District play host to several state championship events while also serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Tampa from 1997-1999.
Vernon and his wife Brenda are the parents of two grown children, a son and daughter.
