Biography
Wilburn Clary played football and baseball at the University of South Carolina from 1933–37. He coached numerous sports at Methodist Children’s Home in Winston-Salem for 30 years after he graduated. Clary served as executive director of the Western N.C. High School Athletic Association from 1949–70, and he was considered the top college football official for 40 years from 1939–78. Clary officiated 375 football games, including the Orange, Peach and Sugar Bowls. He is a member of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
