Wyoming Chapter

The Wyoming Chapter is dedicated to keeping amateur football alive and well in the state of Wyoming. To that end, the chapter continually looks to honor people who give unselfishly of their time, talent and resources to the great game of football.

The National Football Foundation was founded in 1947 but the Wyoming Chapter of the NFF was not established until 1993, when Paul Roach gathered a group of interested ex-players, businessmen, coaches, athletic administrators, educators and football fans together.

The group decided it was time to honor Wyoming High School and the University of Wyoming football scholar-athletes for hard work and dedication to the sport, as well as academic achievements, school leadership and community involvement. The chapter hosts an annual awards banquet each year, honoring the top scholar-athletes from high schools throughout Wyoming and the University of Wyoming with plaques, scholarships and statewide recognition. At the annual banquet, the chapter also recognizes individuals for helping keep amateur football alive and well in Wyoming. Each year, the chapter honors the Greatest UW Football Fan and the Greatest Wyoming High School Football Fan as well as giving a Football Official and Football Coach Career Achievement Award.

The chapter also presents an Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award, to someone who has coached for many years in Wyoming, helped start a youth football program, spearheaded a fund raising effort to improve the football facilities in the community or has spent a lot of time, effort and dedication on any cause that has benefited amateur football in Wyoming.

Another important function of the chapter is to nominate and promote former UW All-Americans for election into the National Football College Hall of Fame. Eddie Talboom was elected in 2000 and Jay Novacek was inducted in 2008. Former UW coaches Bob Devaney, Bowden Wyatt and Pat Dye are also in the Hall.
