Colorado Chapter

The Colorado Chapter was charted on July 1, 1992, and is one of 120 chapters in 47 states that make up the organization. Its members include former players, coaches, athletics administrators, educators, officials, news media and football fans, all of whom enjoy the game of football and share in its purposes and goals.

The chapter is an important contributor to youth, high school, and college football programs throughout the state. Its members include former players, coaches, athletics administrators, officials, news media and football fans, who all enjoy the game of football and share its purposes and goals.

One of our primary goals is to recognize and honor the top high school football student-athletes in the state – young men who have distinguished themselves on the field, in the classroom and in extracurricular and community activities where leadership abilities are displayed.

Our honored student-athletes are chosen from a field of statewide nominees and selected by an impartial committee with diverse backgrounds. The criteria for selection are based on a combination of athletic ability, academic achievement and citizenship and service.

We are also the only chapter nationwide that selects collegiate players of the week and a collegiate All-State team, which began with the 2003 season. And beginning in 2014, the chapter began recognizing an Academic All-Colorado team comprised of the 10 football-playing colleges and universities in the state, as well as selecting a Scholar-Athlete of the Year (based upon academic and athletic excellence).

The Colorado Chapter also selects the Most Outstanding Player at the 6-man, 8 man, 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A State Championship Football games each year.

Chapter president Dan DeRose was a 1983 National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete out of the University of Southern Colorado (now CSUP).
