The National Capital Region Chapter was launched in early 2005 and it continues to grow in members and activities. The chapter has a core group of dedicated members who believe in the ability of football to strengthen America's young people. Under the leadership of chapter President Greg Oliver (Outstanding Chapter Leader Award 2012), the chapter's efforts highlight football's connection to leadership, sportsmanship, competitive zeal and the drive for academic excellence. The chapter boasts five NFF National Scholar Award winners, a Campbell Trophy Winner, and a Sullivan Award Winner. This chapter produces high performing academic nominees each year.
The chapter hosts an annual scholar-athlete banquet each spring that recognizes 45-50 local scholar athletes. Three colleges- Howard University, Gallaudet University, and Catholic University are honored as well. The chapter has also sponsored annual coaching clinics, an annual "Football 101 for Mothers" night, an annual College Night, and a gold fundraiser. The College Night provides an opportunity for high school coaches, and football players and their families to meet with college coaches and recruiters, and other programs that will bring together all of the organizations and individuals in the Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Southern Maryland area who support the game of amateur football, and scholastic achievement.
