University of Georgia Chapter

Since its inception, the University of Georgia Chapter of the National Football Foundation has made it its objective to honor and encourage student-athletes around the Athens area to strive for academic and athletic excellence. Under the leadership of chapter director Loran Smith, the contributions by the 350 members of the chapter help fund the many scholarships and awards given to their scholar-athletes.

The University of Georgia Chapter bestows various honors and hosts a handful of events for academically driven student-athletes. Each year, the chapter hosts a Scholar-Athlete Banquet, where it honors local student-athletes for success in the classroom and on the gridiron, following a chapter-sponsored golf outing during the day.

The awards the University of Georgia Chapter presents revolve around academic success. Each year, the chapter honors six post-graduate student-athletes from the University of Georgia. It also honors current football players at the University that hold honor roll status. The chapter also presents a Contribution to Amateur Athletics Award and a Distinguished American Award.

Additionally, legendary voach Vince Dooley is working with the University of Georgia Chapter. Coach Dooley has worked closely with the National Football Foundation in recent years - holding a seat on the NFF Honors Court, being enshrined in the College Hall of Fame and earning the 2004 NFF John L. Toner Award as an athletic director who has demonstrated superior administrative abilities and shown outstanding dedication to college athletics and particularly college football.
