Alex Mack Set for Oct. 4 NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, Presented by Fidelity Investments®

Mack, who starred at Cal from 2005-08, is a member of the 2025 NFF College Football Hall of Fame Class.

IRVING, Texas (Oct. 1, 2025) – California and The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that they will jointly honor 2025 College Football Hall of Fame electee Alex Mack with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments®. The Salute will take place Oct. 4 during the Golden Bears' home football game against Duke, which will kick off at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
 
"Alex Mack became one of the most respected linemen in college football, earning First Team All-American honors and anchoring California's front line with intelligence, toughness, and remarkable consistency throughout his career. His intelligence extended to the classroom, and he was named the winner of the 2008 Campbell Trophy," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "We are thrilled to honor him at California Memorial Stadium as a member of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class."
 
The NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute program, which began with the inaugural College Football Hall of Fame Class in 1951, has become a hallowed tradition, and to this day the singular events remain the first of numerous activities in the Hall of Fame experience.
 
During the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, each electee returns to his respective school to accept a Hall of Fame plaque that will stay on permanent display at the institution. The events take place on the field during a home game, and many Hall of Famers cite the experience as the ultimate capstone to their careers, providing them one more chance to take the field and be recognized in front of their home crowd.
 
Named a First Team All-American by The Sporting News and a finalist for the Rimington Trophy in 2007, Mack was also selected as a Second Team All-American by Walter Camp in 2008. He helped propel the Golden Bears to four consecutive bowl victories while anchoring an offense that consistently ranked among the nation's best. Click here for his full Hall of Fame bio.
 
The Santa Barbara, California, product now becomes the 17th Golden Bear player inducted into the Hall, joining Walter Gordon (1916-1918), Dan McMillan (1917, 1919-1921), Stanley Barnes (1918-1921), Harold Muller (1920-1922), Edwin Horrell (1922-1924), Sam Chapman (1935-1937), Robert Herwig (1935-1937), Vic Bottari (1936-1938), Jackie Jensen (1946-1948), Rod Franz (1946-1949), Les Richter (1949-1951), Matt Hazeltine (1951-1954), Joe Kapp (1956-1958), Craig Morton (1962-1964), Ed White (1966-1968), and Steve Bartkowski (1972-74).
 
Hall of Fame coaches who headed the California program include Bill Ingram, Buck Shaw, Andy Smith, and Lynn Waldorf.
 
The 2025 class includes Montee Ball (Wisconsin), Gregg Carr (Auburn), Blake Elliott (Saint John's [MN]), Greg Eslinger (Minnesota), Terry Hanratty (Notre Dame), Graham Harrell (Texas Tech), John Henderson (Tennessee), Michael Huff (Texas), Jim Kleinsasser (North Dakota), Alex Mack (California), Terrence Metcalf (Mississippi), Haloti Ngata (Oregon), Steve Slaton (West Virginia), Darrin Smith (Miami, FL), Michael Strahan (Texas Southern), Dennis Thurman (Southern California), Michael Vick (Virginia Tech), Ryan Yarborough (Wyoming), and coaches Larry Blakeney (Troy), Larry Korver (Northwestern College [IA]), Urban Meyer (Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, Ohio State), Nick Saban (Toledo, Michigan State, LSU, Alabama).

Including the 2025 NFF Hall of Fame Class, only 1,111 players and 237 coaches have been inducted into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame from the nearly 5.62 million who have played or coached the game during the past 157 years. In other words, less than two one-hundredths of a percent (0.02%) of the individuals who have played/coached the game have earned this distinction.
